Cross Road

Located off of Beech Road in Chorlton-cum-Hardy, the scheme focuses on the refurbishment and extension to a semi-detached victorian period property. A Garden Pavilion follows the same design principles towards the rear of the garden, where Nordic Design meets Mid-Century Tropical Modernism.
Relocating the kitchen and dining space to the other side of the property allows a direct line of sight from the front door of the property to the garden pavilion at the rear.

A large window seat replaces the existing bay window to create a transitional seating space between internal and external environments.
The revised internal configuration seeks to challenge the existing layout and provide better open plan living for a growing family. By relocating the downstairs WC to the main circulation space, a better physical connection to the garden has been established.
The materials have been selected through consideration of the client's brief and inspiration from tropical mid-19th century modernism. A careful palette of robust materials include timber panelling, terrazzo flooring and ceramic tiles has been employed both internally and externally.
Externally, the facade features deep recesses created by stack bonded brickwork piers, each serving a different purpose. A large framed window and raised planter creates a direct view over the wildflower garden from the living space, an internal/external window seat connects the kitchen to the garden, whilst the set back in the extension allows direct access to the rear of the property.

The roofscape is formed from two interlocking mono-pitched roofs centralised from the edge of the existing property. A ceramic band ties both the rear and side extensions together.

Finally a first floor extension creates a new primary suite overlooking the garden.
