Matthew Moss High School

Continuing our work with Watergrove Trust, Define were appointed to carry out the internal reconfiguration of classrooms, corridors, and  complete overhaul of WC facilities to accommodate the increased intake of students from 800 to 1200.
Incorporating the existing meeting room into the toilet block area allows for the capaity of the male toilets to be increased, achieving 20 No. male WCs and 20 No. Female WCs. Large areas of glazing to both the male and female toilets allow for increased sight lines into the toilets.

A single, seperate WC complete with wash basin at the entrance to both the male and female blocks allows for the main toilets to be closed during lessons for cleaning. Hand dryers for both main toilets are located below the glazing, adjacent to the exit to encourage flow and reduce congestion.

The existing configuration of the sports hall WCs does not allow for passive supervision,
and the male WCs have urinals, which are not used by students and therefore the space could be better utilised.

The proposal relocates the accessible toilet, and provides a total of 10 No. male WCs and 10 No. female WCs. The entrances are relocated and openings increased, providing improved passive supervision.

The reconfiguration of the sports hall WCs, combined with the proposed works to the main WCs achieves provisions required by the Department of Education for the increased student intake.
